Sessions with Children and Babies

What to expect

Children and babies communicate their needs and share their experiences through play and gesture. In these sessions special attention is given to what is being expressed through play and non-verbal communication. Similar to sessions for adults, a combination of both dialogue and gentle contact is used.

Whatever a child or infant may be experiencing, I will support the parent(s) or caregiver to be present for the session. As little ones have their own way of expressing themselves, and a rhythm quite different from the adult world, the pace of the session is set to match theirs’.

One of the benefits can be an increase in the family’s ability to regulate in relation to each other. An increased capacity for both relational and self-regulation helps us to meet challenges with more flexibility and resilience.

It is likely in any session related to a birth experience that I will also make room for exploring pre and peri-natal imprints.

A typical process includes:

Initial visit. The first session is primarily about creating a safe surrounding, so important when working with little ones and for fostering healthy bonding.

Follow-up session(s). These sessions are oriented toward exploration and resolution of any specific concerns described in the first session. Each situation is unique. The number of sessions can vary depending on the needs that arise. It’s possible that only one or two sessions are called for. In other situations, several may be wanted.

Sessions last approximately 1 hour and a half from the time you arrive until the time you leave.

To be able to best support everyone involved in the session, I sometimes work with an assistant trained in craniosacral therapy.
